Most European vignette countries have dropped physical stickers. Your vignette is now a database entry tied to your number plate — which makes buying easy but makes accuracy critical.

No sticker, just your plate

When you buy, the vignette is registered against your plate and country code. There is nothing to display or carry; cameras read your plate and check it against the database automatically.

Why the exact plate matters

The single most common cause of a fine is not forgetting to buy — it is a typo. Enter an O instead of a 0, or the wrong country code, and the system sees no valid vignette for the plate you are actually driving. Always check the plate on your confirmation matches the car exactly.

Buying in advance

Most countries let you set a future start date, so you can buy before you travel and have it active the moment you cross the border — no scrambling at a kiosk.
