Driving on Czech motorways (D-roads) and most expressways requires a digital vignette linked to your number plate — no sticker. It is for vehicles up to 3.5 t, and motorcycles are free.
Which vignette to choose
Four lengths: 1-day, 10-day, 30-day, and annual (365-day). The 10-day suits most tourists and transit; the annual runs 365 days from the start date you pick, not a fixed calendar year. You set the start date when you buy.
The EV rule that catches people out
Fully electric and hydrogen vehicles (up to 3.5 t) are exempt — they pay nothing. Plug-in hybrids with CO₂ up to 50 g/km pay 25% of the standard price. Natural gas / biomethane vehicles get 50% off. LPG gets no discount.
The catch: if your electric or hydrogen car is registered outside the Czech Republic, the exemption is not automatic — you must register the vehicle for it in advance, or the cameras flag you as unpaid and you are fined despite driving electric.
Enforcement
The vignette is tied to your plate and checked by cameras — there is nothing to display. Buying after you have been caught does not cancel the fine, and fines run into the thousands of crowns. Buy before the border.
