Romania Rovinieta 2026 — The Vignette for All National Roads

Romania’s vignette — the rovinieta — is digital and linked to your plate. A key difference from many countries: it is required on all national roads (DN), European roads (E), expressways and motorways — not just motorways — so it is hard to avoid if you are driving through.

Durations and price

Short options from 1 day up to an annual (the exact short-period set varies, so check the current list when you buy). The short options cost only a few euros, which makes Romania one of the cheapest vignettes in Europe. Motorcycles are exempt — the rovinieta is mandatory for every vehicle except motorcycles.

Start date

Buying online, you choose the start date and it is valid from 00:00 on that day. You can buy up to about 30 days in advance.

The bridge people forget

The Danube bridges between Romania and Bulgaria (Giurgiu–Ruse and Calafat–Vidin) have a separate toll, paid at the crossing — they are not part of the rovinieta. If you are heading to or from Bulgaria, budget for it separately.

Enforcement

Camera-based plate checks across the national network. Buy before you drive; the vignette cannot be backdated.
